This position is responsible for performing prompt, efficient, courteous, and reliable line maintenance and construction on all energized and de-energized lines and poles using safe and accepted methods.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Familiar with electric systems and distribution circuits,
  • Maintains knowledge of current line construction materials, line equipment, and protective equipment.
  • Maintains a basic overall knowledge of line design in conjunction with line construction of overhead and underground including erecting and setting poles, guying poles, installing cross arms, insulator, and associated hardware. Stringing and sagging line conductors, installing transformers, lightning arrestors, fuses, and protective equipment. Installing services, secondary, and lights.
  • Stays familiar with RUS specifications, National Electrical Safety Code, safety rules and policies adopted by WKRECC. Responsible for own safety and reporting all accidents or near misses to supervisor.
  • Stays familiar with and can perform first aid and CPR and pole top and bucket rescue.
  • Complies with all traffic laws, safety rules, DOT regulations and usage practices while operating any vehicle assigned.
  • Operators digger/derrick trucks, aerial lift trucks, and any other mechanical equipment or tools necessary to safely perform line work both overhead and underground. Sees those trucks, tools, and working equipment are properly used and kept in good working order.
  • Demonstrates ability to climb poles proficiently and perform work off hooks or from an aerial lift.
  • Knows different voltages and safe approach distances.
  • Installs and operates transformer banks, OCRs, regulators, and capacitors.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervision and management

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have and maintain a valid Kentucky driver license and class A CDL driver license.
  • Must be able to read and interpret system maps.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be honest, helpful, pleasant and dependable.
  • Must be able to work extended hours in adverse weather.
  • Must be able to lift weights in excess of 70 pounds.
  • Must possess good analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to climb poles using lineman tools and equipment while working on pole.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Should have an effective working knowledge of construction, operations and maintenance of an electric distribution line both overhead and underground.
  • Should be skilled in mechanical work required in the connection and installation of materials, apparatus, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of distribution lines.
  • Should have a general knowledge and understanding of all RUS and industry construction standards.
  • Should have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the NESC and must be able to apply the NESC to situations and conditions arising in relation to the distribution and transmission system.
  • Should be aware of all safety rules and codes that are in affect at West Kentucky RECC, and that are required by law to be used by employees during the operation of the cooperative.
  • Must successfully complete the hurt man rescue annual testing.
  • Must develop the ability to properly and safely work live conductors of all voltages.
SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

Qualified lineman training program certificate (may be waived if prior experience is enough to qualify the applicant as a lineman.

Experience:

5-7 years of experience in apprenticeship in qualified lineman training program.

Other Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License, class A CDL in Kentucky is required
  • CPR/First aid certified.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be willing to work with all WKRECC in the best interest of WKRECC and accept change in the work program to keep with changing times.
  • Must pass all training required for position by WKRECC.
