Position: Basic Nurse Assistant Program Coordinator

Description

The BNA Program Coordinator is responsible for organizing all aspects of the BNA program. This leadership role requires close collaboration with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and various clinical facilities within the community. Frequent communication with counseling and student support services is required.

Essential Functions (critical tasks)
  • Maintain and submit course master schedules each semester/term. Notify the Illinois Department of Public Health of any schedule deviations and keep the Master Binder updated, including printing monthly updates from IDPH.
  • Communicate directly with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and community clinical sites on matters impacting BNA. Respond within the IDPH timeframe.
  • Uphold Lake Land College compliance with all IDPH requirements and ensure program renewal every two years.
  • Coordinate student criminal background checks, and manage student training records in the Health Care Worker Registry.
  • Coordinate clinical site affiliation agreements and obtain instructor approval from IDPH.
  • Assist with schedule building activities to offer courses that meet the needs of traditional and non‑traditional students.
  • Participate in all mandatory assessment activities.
  • Submit student accommodations to SIU‑C and collaborate with the Office of Student Accommodations.
  • Review cluster scores and competency testing submissions, provide results to instructors, and develop corrective action plans as needed by IDPH/SIU‑C.
  • Advocate for student equipment and supplies through Perkins funding and program budgeting activities.
  • Contribute to exam creation, perform skill checks, and provide input to BNA curriculum development.
  • Participate in college enrollment initiatives and recruit qualified faculty for BNA instructors.
  • Conduct student orientations and ensure accuracy of course rosters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    Education and Experience: Associate's degree in nursing required, bachelor's degree preferred. Must have at least two years of experience as a professional registered nurse and one year experience in one of the following areas:

  • Teaching theory in an accredited nursing program.
  • Providing nursing care, including personal care and activities of daily living, to older adults or chronically ill adults.
  • One year experience in a long‑term care facility providing direct patient care.
  • May also be required to complete a Train the Trainer course and an approved evaluator course, depending on educational level and practical experience. Further educational requirements to meet CEU requirements.

    Knowledge: Knowledge of community college setting and IDPH regulations.

    Skills: Must be clinically competent in patient‑centered care for nursing. Ability to work with a diverse population of students and staff; excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and time‑management skills.

    Personal: Strong sense of commitment to the community college philosophy and the continuous process of career and life planning.

    Physical: Ability to travel within the college district; evening hours may be required.
