Description

The Instructional Designer is responsible for providing instructional support for Lake Land College faculty through the design and assessment, facilitation, and implementation of traditional and alternative delivery course development services and training. The Instructional Designer acquires and maintains knowledge of current developments in andragogy and instructional technology and remains current with regional and national developments in the field. The Instructional Designer develops and provides LMS training instructional technology training, and accessibility training in collaboration with the Online Support and Instructional Specialist.

Description

of Essential Functions (critical tasks)
  • Provides instructional design expertise for the development and support of traditional and alternative delivery (online, hybrid, hyflex, etc.) courses.
  • Assists faculty in the design of lessons and instructional modules development of learning resources, and retooling of courses and course segments for traditional and alternative delivery, such as accelerated or competency-based education.
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of assessment theory and best practices and support faculty in the design and facilitation of meaningful, varied assessment strategies aligned with course outcomes, program goals, and HLC criteria for student learning and continuous improvement.
  • Consults with faculty administrators and instructional staff on design development and evaluation of instructional programs, materials, methods, and teaching techniques.
  • Develops and facilitates faculty development academies and training.
  • Leads collaboration with faculty and academic leadership at the institution to manage the accessible design process and develop learning resources and standards to ensure the institution's overall quality plan for instruction is being met.
  • Provides central oversight technical leadership and guidance to support Academic Services in the creation of accessible learning objects and course content, including video, audio, and multimedia production and accessibility compliance.
  • Provides assistance in the development and remediation of course materials to meet the institutional, state, and federal standards; conducts accessibility audits of alternative delivery courses.
  • Coordinates instructional design projects from inception to completion with the Online Support and Instructional Specialist.
  • Researches and recommends instructional strategies, course materials, assessments, and educational technology solutions in accordance with best practices.
  • Develops and produces LMS instructional technology and accessibility training materials for faculty.
  • Consults in the development of new programs and courses as needed.
  • Maintains thorough, accurate, and current records of the department's operations.
  • Researches and assesses educational technology tools and trends relating to online education and improvement implementation.

    Job Requirements Education Requirements
    • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design, or a related field.
    Experience Requirements
    • At least two (2) years teaching experience; teaching experience in higher education preferred. Experience with curriculum development. Experience with online course design. Experience using learning management systems and instructional technology. Experience in organizing, leading, and facilitating events and/or training.
    Knowledge
    • Knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design, development, and assessment of curriculum. Knowledge of Universal Design. Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy of education.
    Skills
    • Demonstrated ability to design, produce, and assess instructional programs. Demonstrated fluency in Microsoft Office. Demonstrated ability to produce documents, video, audio, and alternative texts within the Web Content Accessibility 2.0 guidelines. Demonstrated ability to use online instructional technology (video, teleconference, etc.).
    Personal Requirements
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and staff. Demonstrated ability to communicate coherently orally, in writing, and online. Demonstrated ability to work impactfully in a group setting. Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or visual form. Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks within stated deadlines.
