Overview
Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses prevention, mental health services, and foster care. All programs are trauma‑informed and evidence‑based with the goal of building resilience in our clients (ages 0‑18) and their families, both virtually and in person. Responsibilities- Facilitate learning in small‑group settings, tailoring instruction to each student’s unique needs.
- Plan and deliver lessons that address specific academic goals and learning styles.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
- Create an inclusive, supportive learning environment where all students feel valued and encouraged.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff to develop comprehensive educational plans.
- Implement instructional strategies and interventions to help students academic challenges.
- Work with colleagues, parents, and staff to ensure each student’s educational plan is comprehensive and tailored.
- Monitor and assess progress, adjust lesson plans, and implement interventions as needed.
- Follow the school schedule:
Monday‑Friday 7:45‑4:00 pm (school hours 8:00‑2:30 pm, planning period 2:30‑4:00 pm).
- Starting pay: $50,000 annually

- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
- Minimum three years of relevant classroom experience
- Experience with trauma‑informed strategies or pedagogies preferred
- Experience teaching mathematics
- NC teacher license required
- Experience working with adolescent youth (6th‑12th grade)
- Classroom size 5‑8 students, online learning support (Ed Genuity), and small‑group instruction
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; excellent written and oral communication
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; at least 3 years of driving required
- Pass a drug screening test and extensive background check
- Passion for working with youth & adolescents
