POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE
Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher on a daily basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured environment.
2. Work with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher.
3. Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.
4. Distribute, collect and check student assignments for accuracy.
5. Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers.
6. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
7. Record student attendance and discipline referrals using computer.
8. Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and bathroom breaks.
9. Maintain confidentiality.
10. Participate in staff development training program, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned. 11. All other duties as assigned by the principal and/or DAEP Teacher.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense) 2. Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for the educational aide certificate shall
1. hold a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school diploma, or higher;
2. have satisfied one of the following requirements:
a. has three creditable years of experience, as defined in Chapter 153, Subchapter CC, of this title (relating to Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service), as either an educational aide I or II; b. has completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas;
3.have experience working with students and parents as approved by the employing superintendent.
