MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university and Type 10 LBSI Teacher Certification from the Illinois State Board of Education
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:Possess a Master’s Degree in special education or related field. Training in and ability to modify/adapt general education curriculum, and use of technology for instruction.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:No minimum experience required.
DESIRABLEEXPERIENCE:
Experience working with special education students; modifying/adapting general education curriculum; providing education services in varied environments.
ADDITIONALSKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Commitment to education in least restrictive settings. Ability to recognize learning disabilities, plan remediation and evaluate student progress. Ability to function as a member of an educational team, collaborate with general education staff, support personnel, community agencies and parents. Strong behavior management and positive discipline skills. Ability to be flexible and receptive to change.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:Under direction of Special Education Department administrator and local school administrators will provide quality services to students with disabilities, through a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of special education programs including specialized instruction, and consultation to general education staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Prepare student individual education programs in consultation with parents and IEP team members.
- Design instruction, both individual programs and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum.
- Act as a case manager of IEP implementation with general educations staff.
- Monitor student progress and participation in review and revision of IEP, as appropriate.
- Assist other professional staff in identifying learning/behavior disabilities, development of remediation plans, and evaluation of student progress.
- Maintain appropriate student data and other records and submit reports as required.
- Articulate curriculum between and among student levels.
- Manage classroom organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Enter data into a computer, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.
- Stand, walk, and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds waist height.
