Associate Professor (Agronomy)

PhD in Agriculture/Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a closely related field with  10 years of experience.

Position Summary

The Associate Professor of Agronomy is responsible for advancing teaching, research, and service in the field of agronomy. The role emphasizes independent and collaborative research, high-quality instruction at undergraduate and graduate levels, student mentorship, and contributions to departmental, institutional, and professional service. The position is typically tenured or tenure-track.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in agronomy and related disciplines (e.g., crop production, soil fertility, plant physiology, sustainable agriculture).
Develop and update course curricula using modern pedagogical approaches.
Supervise undergraduate projects, graduate theses, and dissertations.
Mentor students for academic and professional development.

Research
Conduct independent and collaborative research in agronomy or allied fields.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly outlets.
Secure external research funding through grants and sponsored projects.
Integrate research outcomes into teaching and extension activities where applicable.

Extension & Outreach
Participate in extension programs to transfer research findings to farmers, industry stakeholders, and policymakers.
Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and industry partners.
Contribute to field demonstrations, workshops, and training programs.

Service
Participate in departmental, college, and university committees.
Contribute to curriculum development and academic planning.
Provide professional service at regional, national, or international levels (e.g., peer review, professional societies).

Required Qualifications
PhD in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a closely related field with 10 years of experience.
Demonstrated record of effective teaching at the university level.
Strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
Evidence of successful or emerging research leadership.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
Postdoctoral or significant research experience.
Experience securing competitive research funding.
Expertise in specialized areas such as sustainable agriculture, climate-smart agronomy, precision agriculture, or crop improvement.

Experience with interdisciplinary or industry-linked research.

Skills & Competencies
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
