Transportation Coordinator

Job Description

Position: The Transportation Coordinator is employed without regard to age, disability, or other protected statuses. NRSD welcomes employees with diverse racial, cultural, religious, class, and/or gender backgrounds and experiences.

The Transportation Coordinator will facilitate all aspects of student services transportation, coordination with contracted providers, and communication regarding transportation-related inquiries with school personnel and the public.

Supervision: The Transportation Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Student Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates all programs and services relating to transportation for the student services office.
  • Work cooperatively with Central Office staff and school administration.
  • Arrange school year and summer transportation in coordination with external transportation service for both in and out of district special education students and students covered by the McKinney-Vento Act.
  • Write, interpret and enforce provisions in the specifications and contracts for school transportation.
  • Maintain records and complete forms for reporting mileage and student ridership data to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to ensure District eligibility for state reimbursement of transportation costs.
  • Plan and schedule school bus routes for transporting students to and from school for all Special Education routes, both out-of-district and in-district.
  • Organize, coordinate and manage all aspects of a bus rider system, including assisting with preparing the annual budget for transportation and managing efficient routes.
  • Serve as the principal point of contact for Special Education transportation-related issues for parents, school administrators, school staff, and transportation providers.
  • Report and coordinate all bus conduct and incident reports to the appropriate school administrator.
  • Develop correspondence and bus transportation policies in coordination with the administration.
  • Communicate information to families and school staff; assist families with inquiries related to bus route concerns and reports.
  • Work with vendors to determine bus routes and busing accommodations for all Special Education students in a cost-effective and safe manner.
  • Provide routing information to each school and any changes in bus routes during the school year.
  • Collaborate with other school districts to identify shared ridership routes when possible.
  • Continuously assess and manage bus ridership and efficiency, and make route adjustments as necessary.
  • Schedule and maintain training logs for all transportation vendors as required by state regulations.
  • Investigate and report all accidents related to school bus transportation and communicate with families.
  • Check and approve all transportation invoices, including parent reimbursements, and forward them to Accounts Payable for processing.
  • Create Purchase Orders for transportation expenses, including accommodations related to transportation in the student’s IEP.
  • Assist in the preparation of end-of-year reporting with the business office and Student Services.
  • Assist the administration in matters and at meetings concerning transportation, including the cabinet as requested.
