Seasonal Plumber And Steamfitter II (North) – Long Term

Seasonal Plumber & Steamfitter II (North) – Long Term (260001LN). 4/19/26 – 10/31/26 (28 weeks) @ 40 hrs. Report to 164 Pond St., Stoneham. 1 position. If you are selected and would work less than 90 days, the position will automatically revert to a short‑term seasonal role. Short‑term positions are not part of the advertised salary scale; the hourly rate will be discussed during the interview if the role reverts.

Position Summary

The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks a qualified Long‑Term Seasonal Plumber & Steamfitter II for the North Region.

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities

Troubleshoots plumbing problems in DCR facilities and takes required actions to remedy the situation. Repairs or replaces plumbing issues such as bathrooms, pumps, water supplies, drains, etc.; cleans sewers. Consults with contractors, utility companies, and other trades personnel. All work is performed under Massachusetts codes.

Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervising, installing, repairing, maintaining, and/or altering steam and plumbing systems, sanitary fixtures, sprinkler systems, heating units, steam tables, etc., using power tools, sewer cleaning machines, hand tools, and plumbing equipment.
  • Packing joints, valves, and pumps.
  • Cutting and threading pipes.
  • Caulking and packing lead joints, valves, and pumps.
  • Replacing seals in water closets.
  • Cleaning filters.
  • Unplugging sinks, toilets, and drains.
  • Using statewide e‑portal to apply for plumbing permits.
  • Insulating heat‑tracing wires and/or piping.
  • Scheduling installation, maintenance, and/or repair work in coordination with Regional Directors, district managers, and other department personnel.
  • Determining stock and material needed for assignments and placing orders.
  • Properly completing work orders and submitting them in a timely manner.
  • Performing related duties such as erecting scaffolding, rigging and/or ladders, laying out drop cloths, fabricating metal products, sharpening tools, cleaning equipment, preparing work reports, and training employees on the job.
  • Performing other related work as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • General knowledge of all trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, and masonry.
  • Ability to safely and properly work with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, instructions, or layouts.
  • Experience estimating length of time, cost of materials, and manpower needed to develop a work project budget.
  • Experience supervising assigned staff and assessing capabilities of personnel and available resources.
  • Ability to handle complaints regarding assigned work and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Current and valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Additional training may be required (confined space, ladder safety, hazardous materials).
  • Massachusetts Plumbing License, Journeyman or Master Plumber’s license is required.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
  • At least one year of full‑time, or equivalent part‑time, experience in plumbing and steamfitting.
  • Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Plumber’s license.
