Overview

Summary of Position: The Facilities Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and well‑maintained operation of New England Village. This position supports NEV’s mission by ensuring that homes, program spaces, and shared environments promote safety, comfort, and full participation for the people who live, work, and engage in services across our community.

Job Title: Facilities Technician

Location: Pembroke, MA

Schedule: Monday through Friday (40 hours)

Salary: $26/hour

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs equipment, appliances, and building systems.
  • Performs general plumbing work including replacing fixtures, repairing leaks, resolving improper operation, and maintaining water closets and related systems.
  • Performs carpentry, painting, drywall repair, flooring patching, and minor electrical work.
  • Assists with or performs renovations including painting, repairing or replacing windows, doors, glass, and other building elements.
  • Moves, lifts, and transports furniture, equipment, and materials as needed.
  • Identifies issues outside the scope of the role and reports them promptly to the supervisor.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment, including belts, lubrication, bearings, motors, and electrical cords.
  • Inspects and supports maintenance of boilers, alarms, detectors, and related building systems.
  • Tests and coordinates service for fire alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and other building safety systems.
  • Reports system malfunctions immediately and assists with coordination of vendor repairs.
  • Reads and interprets work orders, simple prints, sketches, diagrams, and written instructions to support maintenance and repair work. Safely and effectively uses hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, ladders, and equipment associated with carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance trades.
  • Operates lawn mowers, snow blowers, trimmers, power washers, and other grounds‑maintenance equipment.
  • Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows all technical safety procedures when handling tools, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Maintains tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Operates NEV fleet vehicles to obtain, transport, and deliver materials, equipment, and supplies between NEV locations.
  • Conducts regular inspections of buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems to identify hazards, maintenance needs, or compliance concerns.
  • Follows OSHA standards, MSDS requirements, local building codes, and all NEV safety rules and procedures.
  • Uses required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Detects and reports malfunctioning equipment, unsafe conditions, or facility concerns immediately.
  • Maintains work areas, vehicles, and equipment in safe and orderly condition, ensuring individuals served safety at all times.
  • Obtains OSHA‑10 certification within NEV’s required timeframe.
  • Performs landscaping tasks including mowing, trimming, planting, mulching, and seasonal yard cleanup.
  • Conducts exterior maintenance around buildings, entrances, walkways, parking areas, and campus grounds.
  • Executes snow and ice removal, including shoveling, sanding, salting, and operating snow blowers and related equipment.
  • Maintains and operates outdoor equipment such as lawn mowers, snow blowers, and power washers.
  • Provides on‑site assistance during weather‑related events requiring additional facilities support.
  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Maintain clear and complete documentation related to repairs, inspections, materials used, and work performed.
  • Identify issues that fall outside the scope of the role and promptly report them to the supervisor.
  • Participate in department planning discussions and collaborative work projects as assigned.
  • Transports supplies, tools, and equipment between NEV locations as needed.
  • Assists with event setups, furniture moves, room configurations, and program requests.
  • Supports departmental projects, campus initiatives, and facilities planning meetings.
  • Safely operates NEV fleet vehicles for transportation of tools, supplies, and equipment.
