Job Summary

The Shop Diesel Technician II performs licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and diagnostics. The role supports the company’s growth and works under the supervision of a senior technician to acquire advanced mechanical and diagnostic skills.

Responsibilities
  • Always follow and comply with safe operating practices.
  • Determine parts needed for each job and coordinate with the Shop Parts Department.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Work with Service Writers to assess customer needs and resolve issues.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocation.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles.
  • Occasionally travel to customer locations to perform work.
  • Change oil, check batteries, lubricate equipment, and use hand/precision tools, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work on Repair Orders, upload pictures, and complete DOT forms accurately.
  • Maintain shop‑assigned service trucks and conduct safety checks.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (electrical, brake, cooling, engines, transmissions, etc.).
  • Diagnose and repair various truck systems, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Assist Shop Diesel Technician I with diagnostics.
  • Participate in and complete all company‑required safety training.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience (alternative: higher degree or 5+ years).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one before or within 72 hours of hire.
  • Hand tools necessary to perform duties.
  • Participate in and complete all company training.
Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding of new information for problem solving and decision making.
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; ability to perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, including two‑way communication with individuals and groups.
  • Judgment in selecting tools and equipment.
  • Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.
Certifications
  • Required:

    ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
  • Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), 608/609.

Compensation

Hourly base pay: $28.70 – $43.03. Salary may vary by location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission and incentive programs.
