As a member of the Seasonal Weed Crew, you will support the Trustees' mission and Powisset Farm's commitment to connecting the community to food and the land on which it grows.
Powisset Farm is located on ancestral and unceded lands of the Wampanoag, Nipmuc, and Massachusetts peoples. It has a long history of agricultural enterprises, from its First Peoples to Amelia Peabody's legendary farm. Today it is best known for its CSA (community supported agriculture) operation, which provides vegetables each week during the growing season and offers pick‑your‑own crops. The farm supplies an on‑site stand, a mobile market program, an on‑farm commercial kitchen, and wholesale accounts.
The RoleAs a Seasonal Weed Crew Member, you will handle essential farm work on a daily basis: planting, seeding, weeding, hoeing, harvesting, post‑harvest vegetable handling, and fall farm cleanup. You will meet the physical challenges of farming alongside a small team.
Specifically, you’ll:- Seed, transplant, complete field preparations, cultivate, harvest, and distribute produce
- Perform field work both alone and as part of a team
This is a seasonal, nonexempt position working 20 hours per week, reporting directly to The Field Crop Manager.
Requirements Skills and Experience- Responsible and adaptable team member
- Prior farm experience is preferred, but not required
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
- Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment
- A valid driver's license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees' driving policy
- A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check
