Summary of Position
As an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, the RN Supervisor provides nursing oversight to residential programs and directly supervises the nursing staff. In collaboration with team members, the RN Supervisor ensures compliance with regulatory and healthcare standards to promote the health and wellbeing of individuals served. The RN Supervisor also leads audits, supports training initiatives, and contributes to the development and monitoring of health-related policies and documentation systems.

- Provide clinical support and supervision to the nursing team, including RN, LPN and Per Diem Nursing.
- Assist with interviewing, hiring and orienting nursing staff.
- Conduct annual performance reviews. Review for continuity, clarity and completeness.
- Organize and align nursing services to support comprehensive and coordinated care for individuals.
- Provide nursing assessments of individuals, including making critical, timely decisions, identifying medical interventions and protocols for effective monitoring.
- Document assessments and communication in progress notes.
- Advise staff of any medical problems hindering individual’s progress or activities of programs aggravating progress.
- Collaboratively coordinate with health care professionals and staff to formulate and implement medical treatment plans.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with external providers, including visiting nurses, laboratories, hospice care, pharmacies and physician offices, to support comprehensive care for the individual.
- Provide dietary support with preparation of specialized diets and eating. Monitor nutrition plan compliance and assess changing needs.
- Actively participate in internal and external meetings involving an individual’s health care.
- Attend physician’s appointments as needed.
- Liaison with hospitals and rehabilitation centers to ensure safe admissions and discharges.
- Participate in a rotating schedule as needed to ensure coverage during holidays.
- Provide coverage at day habilitation programs as needed to ensure continuity of care and support staffing needs.
- Follow medical policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state, federal, and agency regulations.
- Maintain MAP Trainer Certification and provide clinical oversight to houses regarding DPH Medication Administration.
- Follow the Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Medication Administration Program (MAP) policies. Administer treatments and medication orders as prescribed.
- Implement and review health care treatments and protocols for accuracy, ensuring compliance with funder regulations and ease of use and understanding for program staff.
- Maintain systems for medical recordkeeping in accordance with healthcare standards.
- Support implementation and evaluation of comprehensive health screening programs, including annual and periodic assessments.
- Schedule, coordinate and participate in program audits and other quality improvement initiatives. Update information as needed to maintain record compliance.
- Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety and infection control standards. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.
- Investigate medication occurrences per DPH regulations and adhere to submission deadlines.
- On a rotating basis, provide division wide health care trainings, such as vital signs, infection control, nursing assessments, MAP trainings, etc. Maintain MAP Certification.
- Review person-centered training. Provide assistance in training staff on protocols, diagnoses, etc.
- Provide on-going program-specific medical training on diagnosis, protocols, safe care, and other health-related topics in collaboration with leadership.
