Read Mail with a Blind Woman in Wareham
Join the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) as a volunteer to help a participant in Wareham, MA with reading mail and other clerical tasks. This role offers flexible hours, typically 1‑2 hours a week or every other week, and focuses on building a supportive relationship with a community member.
About the RoleMABVI’s Community Volunteer Program pairs volunteers one‑to‑one with visually impaired adults in their community. Volunteers assist with daily tasks such as reading mail, paying bills, using technology, and running errands.
Responsibilities- Read mail and pay bills.
- Provide guidance on internet use and technology.
- Assist with medical transportation.
- Run grocery shopping errands.
- Guide during recreational activities such as walking or running.
- Complete other clerical tasks as needed.
Flexible; typically 1–2 hours per week or every other week, depending on the matched participant’s needs.
Volunteer Onboarding Process- Complete the MABVI Volunteer application.
- Finish the online, modular volunteer training.
- Schedule a Zoom meeting with a member of the MABVI volunteer team and submit a CORI check.
- Meet the volunteer team via Zoom or phone.
- Receive a participant match.
Volunteers may need to travel within the Boston region, with a minimum of 10‑15 miles preferred. The role may involve helping once a week or bimonthly, as requested by the participant.
