Location: Islington

Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Digital Communications Officer for our client a government organisation in North, London. The successful post holder will work closely with our Communications and Campaigns team, you’ll plan, film, edit and publish story led content that showcases real frontline services and how we deliver for our residents. Across ten weekly themes (e.g. street cleaning and recycling, parks and leisure, community safety, new and improved homes, and support for children, young people and local businesses), they’ll turn briefs into engaging narratives, deliver content that is aligned with the council’s brand and campaign messaging, and ensure it is fully accessible.

They’ll track performance and suggest ways to improve content to meet our campaign goals. The organisation need a confident, creative video storyteller skilled in Premiere Pro, with a strong grasp of social best practice, trends, and how to optimise for each platform. Able to turn sometimes complex or dull information into content that cuts through. Be collaborative, organised and comfortable working at pace across multiple locations and stakeholders.

This role is a temporary contract initially for 3 months with the possibility to extend. They will be working on a hybrid basis.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:
  • Plan, lead, deliver and evaluate digital communications campaigns that support the objectives set out in the organisation’s Strategic Plan.
  • Support the implementation of the digital communications and engagement strategy that ensures the services take advantage of the opportunities and benefits digital channels offer.
  • Work with the Digital Communications and Engagement Manager and Senior Digital Communications Officer to support major or high-profile digital communications projects, working collaboratively.
  • Develop and grow users and subscribers to the council’s digital channels, particularly social media and email marketing.
  • Use digital tools to build a more targeted approach to engaging with external audiences, especially looking at how we can engage seldom heard voices.
  • Play a key role in rationalising and policing the council’s web and intranet channels and overseeing the decision-making and production of microsites, setting clear and measurable objectives.
  • Follow clear project management and planning processes, ensuring content is coordinated and executed in a coordinated way to maximise engagement.
  • Help to manage social media, website, and email enquiries from residents and staff, and respond to these in a timely way to help protect the organisation's and team’s reputation.
  • Ensure digital channels and content meet accessibility legislation and requirements.
  • Generate ideas to improve digital communications channels and content, ensuring the organisation stays relevant in an ever-changing environment.
  • Offer digital communications advice to senior officers, service leads and communications colleagues as appropriate, and to advise on best practice to make the most of digital channels.
  • Individually generate content and work with others to do so, such as web or intranet content, video filming and editing, social media and email copy, etc.
  • Work with Strategic Campaigns Advisors and services to deliver integrated forward plans, ensuring work and projects are presented to residents, businesses, staff and stakeholders in a coordinated way that is connected to the council’s key missions and objectives.
  • Support the delivery of the wider communications service’s objectives, giving advice and support to colleagues on major campaigns.
  • Supporting the development of the council’s digital, brand and creative, public affairs, and engagement functions through close collaboration and working within the team.
  • Working with the Participation and Engagement Manager, ensure that engagement is embedded within communications work, giving residents a voice in our work.
  • Contribute towards council print publications, and their associated digital channels.
  • Ensure communications work is driven by research, data and insight, and is culturally competent for Islington’s communities and workforce.
