The Assistant Superintendent for Operations is responsible for administration of the Accounting/Business Office, Food Service Programs, Regular Day Transportation, and Facilities. This position will manage school finance, accounts payable, and payroll operations. The Assistant Superintendent for Operations oversees and evaluates the Accounting Office Staff.
Qualifications- Master’s Degree in Education or Business Administration
- Certified or Certifiable under the requirements set by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as an Assistant Superintendent and/or School Business Administrator
- Experience in a position of similar or comparable responsibilities
- Supervisory experience including inclusive leadership practices
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge with Google Suite, Clear Gov, Infinite Visions, Microsoft Office Suite, other accounting software
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Capable of communicating and/or presenting information and data to the Superintendent of Schools, School Committee(s), other Boards and/or interested stakeholders
- Supervise Accounting Office Personnel and the Administrative Assistant
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for the individual school districts
- Manage financial operations for the school districts
- Provide financial reporting and forecasts to the Superintendent of Schools, School Committees, interested Boards and applicable stakeholders
- Oversee the assembly and submission of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s End of Year Financial Report(s)
- Work with applicable Town Hall(s) for appropriate MSBA partnered school building projects
- Implement and maintain financial controls for expenditures and revenues, including state and federal grant, capital and revolving funds
- Preparation of monthly financial reports for School Committee
- Supervise day-to-day operations in the areas of budget and accounting, purchasing and accounts payable, including significant interactions with payroll and personnel functions
- Close working relationships with Town Administrator(s), Accountant(s), Treasurer(s) and other town officials
- Provide management support in the areas of personnel, contract negotiations, plant maintenance, custodial operations, transportation, food service, and school renovation and construction projects
- Oversee preparation of DESE grant final financial reports, SIMS, EPIMS, School Building Assistance audits and other mandated state and federal reports
- Assist Superintendent with the preparation and analysis of long-range budget projections including year-end financial projections and enrollments projections.
- Participation on various town and school committees.
- Development of system-wide business procedures and cross-training for all business office personnel.
- Administer the acquisition of all applicable services, supplies, materials and contracts in compliance with appropriate federal, state, and local laws and requirements
- Administers regular day transportation contract(s), schedules, and services for the school districts.
- Work with the Food Service Director(s) to administer the Food Service Program(s) to ensure delivery of a healthy high quality meals and an enjoyable experience for students and staff.
- Perform other duties as required by the Superintendent.
The Assistant Superintendent of Operations works closely with the Central Office Leadership Team:
Student Support Services, Human Resources, Facilities, Technology, and Curriculum. This includes specifically close working relationships with facilities and instructional technology for items such as capital purchasing, procurement, etc.
Determined by the Tri-Town School Union School Committee and documented in an individual contract as negotiated by the School Committee.
