General Description

Crusher Operator typically has previous experience working around a rock crushing plant and using hands, feet, and consistent thought processes to execute instructions. Selected individuals will be expected to travel to other work sites.

Key Duties
  • Set up crusher operation in temporary locations.
  • Ensure crusher is level at all times.
  • Maintain site cleanliness.
  • Perform general labor activities, including shoveling, in the moving parts of the crusher.
  • Remove build up from under or around the crusher and beltlines.
  • Daily checks on conveyors, screen deck and crusher box.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on machinery.
  • Identify unusual plant noise indicating potential mechanical issues.
  • Report crusher issues in a timely manner.
  • Monitor silica dust emissions and use dust suppression as required.
  • Adjust crusher settings to optimize performance and gradation.
  • Collect materials for laboratory sampling and testing.
  • Maintain communication with other members of the crusher operation.
  • Complete required daily documentation for inspection logs, hours of service, etc.
  • Conduct daily safety checks.
  • Conduct emergency shutdown safely and efficiently.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Previous mechanical experience preferred, including operation of an aggregate crushing machine or similar.
  • Welding or torch cutting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of aggregate classification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Driver's license preferred.
  • Must understand verbal and visual instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
Physical Demands
  • Constant ability to walk at a slow pace on various surfaces (asphalt, concrete, dirt, stone).
  • Frequent ability to stoop, bend, and crouch.
  • Frequent physical dexterity to use hand tools (shovel) lifting up to 25 lb.
  • Must use steps and handle/grab bars to access heavy mobile equipment.
  • Vision: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Hearing: understand and distinguish speech and other sounds (e.g., moving equipment, alarms).
Work Environment
  • Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise, grease, dust, and substances common to construction sites; PPE and controls required per OSHA limits.
  • Regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Exposure to form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel; limits not to exceed OSHA permissible exposure.
Safety 1st
  • Assess work environment for possible hazards and ensure training is adequate.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment and tools appropriately.
  • Speak up if seeing an unsafe act.
  • Identify and turn in near‑miss reports.
  • Ask for help when needed to perform tasks safely.
  • Consider safer ways to perform work and communicate.
