Payroll Specialist

Location: Newton, MA Hybrid, on site two days a week
Schedule: Temp to potential perm | Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Compensation: $25–$40/hour (based on experience)

Overview

An established real estate management organization in Newton, MA is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join its corporate HR team. This is a hybrid role and is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in payroll administration, compliance, and HR systems management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll including salaries, overtime, bonuses, and commissions
  • Ensure proper withholding and remittance of all federal, state, and local taxes
  • Maintain current and accurate employee payroll records, including compensation, deductions, and hours worked
  • Verify and reconcile employee timesheets; research and resolve discrepancies
  • Manage payroll data within HRIS platforms (UKG Ready / Centrally HR experience preferred)
  • Prepare payroll reports and assist with audits and compliance reviews
  • Reconcile payroll with the general ledger and assist with financial reporting
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries and W-2 support
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws as well as company policies

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required;
    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, HR, or Business preferred
  • 3–5 years of hands-on payroll processing experience
  • Proficiency in HRIS/payroll systems (UKG Ready or similar platforms)
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, reporting)
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll tax regulations and wage laws
  • Exceptional attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-service-oriented mindset
