The Director of Dining Services at Martha’s Vineyard is the strategic business leader who ensures resident and client satisfaction by providing a consistently high‑quality product and best‑in‑class hospitality while meeting financial goals and driving a positive work environment.
Position TitleDINING SERVICES DIRECTOR - Martha's Vineyard
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000
Other compensation: 5% Bonus + ferry travel reimbursement
Responsibilities- Develop and implement the overall operating strategy aligned with Compass Community Living’s business strategy and disseminate the vision so all team members understand expectations.
- Own driving desired outcomes as the business owner, holding the on‑site leadership team accountable for demonstrating service behaviors.
- Evaluate personnel, operations, and culinary situations and recommend appropriate actions quickly.
- Maintain a professional and positive demeanor with a high level of resilience during stressful periods and adapt to solve problems when required.
- Perform daily walk‑throughs to ensure full compliance with Department of Health regulations and Compass Group standards.
- Direct safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs and ensure regular communication through pre‑meal briefings and staff meetings.
- Advise executives, supervisors, and subordinates on relevant information in a timely manner by telephone, in written form, e‑mail, or in person.
- Prepares and manages annual budget and utilizes company systems for required daily/weekly/monthly reports such as inventory, cash reports, production records, payroll/time‑keeping, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- B.S. Degree in Food Services Technology/Management or related field; or A.A. plus four years of directly related experience preferred.
- Five to seven years of direct food service operational management experience with inventory and purchasing knowledge and control.
- Strong knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
- Previous P&L accountability or contract‑managed service experience is desirable.
- Strong supervisory, leadership, management, and coaching skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to communicate on various levels to include management, client, customer, and associate levels.
- Excellent financial, budgetary, accounting and computational skills.
- Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office programs, e‑mail, and the Internet.
