Overview
SUMMARY:
Under general supervision and following established protocols and procedures, operates Ultrasound imaging equipment to acquire images for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Performs in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures. Follows the facility's standards for ethical business conduct. Conducts self as a positive role model and team member. Participates in facility committees, meetings, in-services, and activities.

- Operates Ultrasound Imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information. Ensure the patient is properly prepared, obtain a relevant patient history, and assure proper positioning.
- Selects proper imaging techniques and follows department protocols to provide a complete study for the exam requested.
- Provides complete documentation of the exam and provides the Radiologist with an initial interpretation.
- Knowledgeable about illnesses related to the patient population and the various types of care being provided to them to provide the appropriate images for the interpreting Radiologist.
- Explains the exam to the patient, considering physical and emotional needs while maintaining ethical standards, including patient confidentiality and privacy.
- Maintains a clean work area, prepares the equipment, patient room, and stocks supplies. In a timely fashion, informs appropriate personnel when orders need to be placed.
- Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement projects and utilizes appropriate cost containment measures.
- Remains flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations, as needed.
- Uses independent judgment and initiative under pressure during patient procedures.
- Utilizes aseptic technique as necessary for invasive procedures and assists the Radiologist or Physician during such procedures. Maintains supplies for these procedures in a clean and organized manner.
- Maintains effective working relations and communication with departmental and other Hawthorn Medical personnel as well as community interactions as appropriate to the position.
- Knowledgeable in the operation of all equipment used during the workday, including imaging equipment and film processors; checks appointments and patient reports.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs as needed.
- Executes paperwork for each patient exam as necessary, including CPT codes and checking all Physician order sheets prior to the patient exam.
- Remains current on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment by reading manuals and technical journals. Participates in educational programs and maintains CEUs meeting state and national guidelines. Attends staff meetings and in-service education programs.
- May oversee and instruct various personnel and students as assigned by the Imaging Manager. Indirect supervision of support staff.
- Performs all other duties as directed.
- Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
- Must possess analytical abilities to acquire and utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures and cross-sectional anatomy.
- Presents a positive attitude and a professional appearance in compliance with the dress code policy.
- Education:
ARDMS Certification or ARDMS eligible, defined as graduate of an accredited ultrasound program with a minimum of 12 months full-time clinical ultrasound experience. - Working Conditions:
Must be aware of hazards and adhere to OSHA safety standards. May be required to respond to emergencies and perform duties as a patient code, fire or other event on premises. Ability to walk, stand, reach, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate; exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and bodily fluids. Pay Range: $38.78-$64.00
