Come join Team Chatham! Town of Chatham, MA seeks a qualified, collaborative, driven professional to provide administrative and communication support to the Cemetery Division of the Department of Public Works.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works, the Cemetery Division Department Assistant performs duties and tasks of administrative, clerical, sales and accounting nature in support of the Cemetery Commission and the Department of Public Works related to public cemeteries.
The position is responsible for burial preparations, plot sales, posting Cemetery Commission agendas and recording meeting minutes; correspondence and communication with Funeral Homes and contractors; record keeping and accounting regarding cemetery operations and plot and burial data.
Successful candidates will have skills that include organization, multitasking proficiencies, detailed-oriented, strong competency in written, verbal and social communications. Seeking candidates who have more than courteous inter-personal and customer service skills and work independently. Ability to maintain good public relations and effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials and the general public. Poise, composure and tact is required at all times.
Ability to use MS Office and virtual technology.
High School Diploma or equivalent and one to two years of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience required. Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license. Prior public service or knowledge of governmental record keeping preferred.
This benefits and pension eligible position is 40 hours per week (Monday thru Friday, 8am – 4pm) and may require some weekend availability. Starting hourly wage is $26.15 - $27.21 depending on qualifications and experience. The position is covered under the Chatham Municipal Employees Association. View the full job description (PDF) .
