IPG Photonics is the world leader in high‑power fiber lasers for industrial welding, cutting, and marking applications. We are seeking a dependable and detail‑oriented Technician – Service to join our service depot team. In this role, you will perform repairs, testing, and maintenance on laser systems and components under the guidance of senior staff. This is an excellent opportunity for a technician to grow their hands‑on skills and contribute to high‑impact laser applications.
JOBFUNCTIONS Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform repairs, testing, and maintenance of laser systems and subsystems in the service depot.
- Follow detailed work instructions and repair documentation to complete service tasks accurately.
- Assist in troubleshooting of mechanical, electronic, and optical components under supervision.
- Prepare systems and components for shipment, including inspection and proper packaging.
- Enter service data into ERP and CRM systems to document completed repairs.
- Collaborate with senior technicians on complex repairs and escalations.
- Participate in ongoing training to build skill sets across mechanical, electrical, and optical systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in alignment with 5S principles.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying minor process improvements.
- Perform optical rework, repair, and refurbishment of fiber laser assemblies within the service repair organization.
- Execute fiber splicing and rework of complex optical assemblies
, including multi‑fiber and high‑power configurations. - Inspect optical and fiber‑based components for contamination, damage, misalignment, and performance degradation.
- Clean, assemble, and reassemble optical and fiber components using approved service repair and clean handling procedures.
- Handle, route, splice, and protect optical fibers during repair activities to ensure optical integrity and reliability.
- Support failure analysis and troubleshooting of optical and fiber‑related issues in returned units.
- Perform repairs in compliance with laser safety, EHS, and quality requirements.
- Document repair actions, findings, splicing activities, and test results in RMA and service repair systems.
- Collaborate closely with service repair engineers and technicians to resolve complex optical repair challenges.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to optical and fiber repair processes, tooling.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings.
- Experience with industrial lasers, accessories, and related diagnostic equipment.
- Excellent electrical/electronic troubleshooting skills with high and low‑voltage equipment.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Associate or Technical degree preferred, but extensive experience in a similar hand‑on experience will be considered.
- 2‑4 years of experience in industrial laser systems, cutting, welding, or marking applications.
- Experience working with laser, electrical, or electro‑mechanical systems is a plus.
- Experience with 5S, Lean, and continuous improvement methodologies is a strong plus.
- Proficient mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting ability.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Eagerness to learn from senior technicians and grow within the team.
- Basic familiarity with CRM or ERP systems is a plus.
- Ability to follow technical instructions and safety procedures consistently.
- Prolonged periods of standing and working in a repair environment.
- Extended periods of sitting at a desk using a computer and test equipment.
- Ability to lift 15 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to navigate the organization’s facilities and travel as needed.
- Occasional travel (up to 10‑15%) for field repairs or support projects.
