** About the role
** Our Illegal Connections team plays a vital part in protecting and improving bathing water quality across the region. You will join a highly experienced group focused on identifying and resolving pollution caused by waste entering the surface water network. Using a range of investigative techniques, you will monitor the surface water system, trace pollution to its source, and work with those responsible to resolve issues.

Your work will directly support our Clean Rivers & Seas Task Force and help safeguard the local environment.
** What you will be responsible for:
*** Monitoring the surface water sewer network for signs of pollution.
* Tracing pollution to its source using a range of investigative methods.
* Communicating clearly with individuals responsible for misconnections.
* Updating internal stakeholders with progress and key milestones.
* Issuing letters in line with Water UK guidance.
* Escalating cases to local authorities when required.
* Planning and prioritising investigations based on severity and business needs.
* Collecting samples and interpreting results.

* Additional requirements:

*** Travel across Kent and East Sussex as required.
* Flexibility to adjust working hours when needed.
* Participation in Southern Water’s incident support rota (details discussed at interview).
** What you’ll bring to the role:
**** Essential
* ** Strong communication and customer service skills.
* Ability to manage your own workload and work independently.
* Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
* A proactive, solution‑focused approach with strong attention to detail.
* A full UK driving licence.
** Desirable
* ** Knowledge of surface water or wastewater networks.
* Experience with in the water industry.
* An interest in environmental protection and water quality.
