Position OverviewThe Associate Scientist position will be part of the Pilot Plant and is responsible for scale‑up and execution of upstream and downstream processes within Biologics Development’s program portfolio. This role will work closely with Process Development and manufacturing teams within the BMS network to deliver robust, scalable, and economical processes for clinical and commercial supply. This position will report to the Manager of the Pilot Plant and will be based in Devens, MA.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for execution of non‑GMP Pilot Scale Lab Operations in accordance with established work instructions and SOPs.
- Adherence to safety during execution and maintenance of a safe work environment.
- Operations may include (but not limited to) wave and bioreactor setup and execution, chromatography and filtration setup and execution, sample submission, media/buffer preparation, and run monitoring/troubleshooting.
- Prepare/review technical documents including campaign summary reports, batch records, and SOPs.
- Introduce, evaluate, and implement innovative new process technologies.
- Participate in cross‑functional teams to support process investigations, process development, scale‑up, and tech transfer to clinical and commercial manufacturing.
- Track performance of Scale‑up data against bench‑scale to aid Process Development teams in the development of scale‑down models.
- Support digital and automation initiatives within the department.
- B.S. or M.S. in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related biologics fields.
- Work experience requirements: 2‑4 years of industry experience in Process Development, Pilot Operations, GMP manufacturing or related field.
- Strong knowledge of downstream process development and unit operations, including chromatography and filtration is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of upstream process development and unit operations, including cell culture, mammalian bioreactors, and harvest is a plus.
- Prior experience with single‑use manufacturing and automation is a plus. Working knowledge of cGMP is a plus.
- Knowledge of automation, statistics, design of experiment, and data analysis is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Compensation OverviewDevens - MA - US: $89,330 - $108,243
The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job‑related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
