Location: Provincetown
The Center for Coastal Studies is hiring summer interns for our Education Department. These are part-time (minimum 20 hours per week), paid positions. Interns must be able to commit to at least two months; preferably from mid-June - mid-August, but dates are flexible based on school schedules. The schedule is flexible, but interns should expect to work occasional weekends and evenings.
Interns must have their own transportation. Limited shared housing may be available for candidates who qualify.
Responsibilities
Intern/s will assist with environmental education programs, including on-site programs, off-site programs, and festivals, including the Center's signature summer events, Whale Week: A Celebration of the Sea, and Whale Camp. Interns will assist in staffing the Center's SEASpace Marine Discovery Center and beach pop-up tents; designing and delivering presentations, answering questions about CCS, marine animals (especially whales, seals and sharks) and ocean conservation issues, and other general duties.
Qualifications
The internship is open to students who are currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to students or recent graduates working towards environmental studies, education, marine science, biology or other related fields.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. They will be a confident self-started who is willing and able to work independently and as part of a team to lead and participate in a variety of projects and activities. They will be adaptable, responsible, hard-working, curious, and have great attention to detail.
Candidates must be comfortable interacting with visitors and program participants of all ages, particularly children 5-10 years old. Interns will be working outside in all conditions and will frequently be required to handle marine invertebrates.
Please note that this position requires frequent outreach to members of the public on local beaches, so the candidate must be able to traverse through soft sand and over short distances.
