Compensation: $66,100–80,800

403(b) retirement contributions have been paused for the  school year. The contributions from the school generally begin only after one year of working at the school.

Job Summary

The Upper School Director is a key leadership position responsible for the overall management and success of the Upper School Program, including academic, social, and emotional development of students in Grades 6–12. Reporting to the Head of School, this role ensures that the Upper School’s curriculum, teaching practices, and student experience are rooted in the values and philosophy of Waldorf education, fostering a culture of academic excellence, personal growth, and community engagement.

Reporting to the Upper School Director are the upper school teachers, the high school administrative coordinator/registrar, and the athletic director. In this role, the Director leads the Upper School faculty, supports student learning and well-being, and builds strong relationships with Upper School families and the broader school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Educational Leadership Lead the ongoing process of Upper School curriculum evaluation, development, and implementation, based in Waldorf pedagogy and informed by the school’s unique mission and vision.
  • Educational Leadership Steer the continued evolution of our program for young people in the context of a 54-acre campus, 42 acres of which are under agricultural restriction, with unique opportunities for land stewardship and place-based education.
  • Educational Leadership Lead and engage faculty in purposeful pedagogical dialogues regularly, ensuring that curriculum and teaching practices reflect the developmental stages in grades 6 through 12.
  • Educational Leadership Structure and continually improve the transition from Middle to High School for students and caregivers.
  • Educational Leadership Monitor and support student progress, ensuring high academic standards and personal growth.
  • Educational Leadership Encourage interdisciplinary learning and creative problem-solving through pedagogical and curricular dialogues with teachers and colleagues.
  • Educational Leadership Foster opportunities for students to excel in their intellectual passions, including through community engagement or new course offerings.
  • Faculty Support and Development Recruit, hire, and retain highly qualified Upper School faculty prepared to deliver Waldorf pedagogy and uphold the school’s mission, and support their training and development as Waldorf Educators.
  • Faculty Support and Development With Head of School, develop and implement professional development programs for faculty focused on pedagogical and professional growth.
  • Faculty Support and Development Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to support teacher growth.
  • Faculty Support and Development Foster a collaborative and innovative teaching environment across the entire school.
  • Faculty Support and Development Encourage teachers to engage in continuous professional learning and development that is substantive and meaningful.
  • Student Support Promote a positive and respectful school culture grounded in the School’s mission and traditions, evolving these thoughtfully in accordance with the values of Waldorf education.
  • Student Support Develop and maintain an effective Restorative Justice based student support system.
  • Student Support Collaborate with student support staff, ensuring the effective implementation of developmentally appropriate behavior management and conflict resolution strategies to support student success.
