This is a school year position, appointed by the Principal, which requires a person who can safely and effectively instruct students in accordance with industrial standards associated with the Culinary Arts field, and in accordance with school policies, procedures, schedules and negotiated agreements. Vocational Instructors report directly to the department's appointed Vocational Team Leader, and/or the school's Vocational Director.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1.Prepare for the delivery of appropriate instruction for the culinary arts strands in accordance with department goals and objectives following proven procedures.
2.Organize and deliver instruction sequentially following the most current Massachusetts VTE Curriculum Frameworks outlined in the Culinary Arts occupational area under the Hospitality and Tourism Cluster and utilizing Competency Based Education methods and techniques as appropriate to individual student learning styles and abilities. Provide quality instruction relative to all aspects of Health and Safety as they relate to the Culinary Arts Industry.
3.Provide instruction in the following areas of this trade: skills and knowledge associated with culinary arts, food safety & sanitation, industry quality standards, problem solving, training, safety, and proper use of industry equipment and fundamentals of kitchen operations and food service.
4.Provide the latest safety training to students and work with them to achieve OSHA certification in a timely manner.
5.Display and promote safe working practices at all times.
6.Use methods of instruction that are welcoming, motivating and student centered.
7.Create an environment that is conducive to learning.
8.Initiate and participate in departmental efforts to integrate instruction
9.Attend curriculum development, departmental, staff, and other required meetings.
10.Participate in activities that promote the best interest of our students and our school.
11.Comply with rigorous standards for professional improvement to keep current with modern technology and pedagogy
12.Cooperate with department Vocational Training Leader and/or Vocational Director in fulfilling the mission of the department and institution.
13.Assist the Vocational Director and/or Team Leader with tasks related to budget development, advisory committee logistics, curriculum development and tasks related to local, state and national assessments.
14.Maintain decorum and control of assigned students for the purposes of enhancing learning and insuring a safe and healthful environment in the classroom and throughout the school.
15.Abide by school procedures, rules and directives.
16.Update student records in the district's student information system (SIS) and competency tracking system every trimester.
17.Become familiar with the schools systems and operating procedures.
18.Must adhere to strict confidentiality practices and policies at all times when accessing and discussing sensitive student information.
19.Utilize school support services as needed.
20.Drive students to and from worksites and school events.
21.The candidate must be able to teach effectively within in-person and remote educational models.
22.The candidate must be able to inspire excellence, achieve consensus and respond effectively to the system's mission with humor and enthusiasm.
Qualifications:

1.Possess necessary approvals to teach Culinary Arts as prescribed by The Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, as put forth by Chapter 74, as amended by Chapter 731 and The Education Reform Act of 1993.
2.Possess a current and successful industry background which insures capabilities to succeed as an instructor in this field.
3.Demonstrate characteristics which clearly indicate an ability to relate positively to students and colleagues.
4.Possess a clear sense of purpose as it pertains to teaching young people who attend this school.
5.Possess a personal history which is exemplary, supported with references.
6.Possess an OSHA 10 hour certification for General Industry
7.Possess a Serv Safe Certification.
8.Strive to complete sixty (60) hours of professional development each year.
9.Possess a current license and/or certification(s) in trade area.
physically and emotionally able to fulfill instructional responsibilities and duties.
Compensation:
1.Based on credentials, approvals and experience, the successful candidate will be paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School Teachers' Association and the Blackstone Valley Regional School District Committee.
