Work Schedule: Full-Time (30‑40 hrs/wk)

• Plans and executes early childhood education and development activities.
• Teaches children using a variety of educational materials and programs.
• Collaborates with parents to promote understanding and follow‑up actions benefiting the children.
• Directs caregivers and volunteers to ensure activities are executed as planned.
• Ensures program plans incorporate observed needs of individual children and youth.
• Implements activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children.
• Incorporates special instructions from parents, such as dietary or physical needs.
• Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements.
• Demonstrates, instructs, leads, and facilitates planned and spontaneous program activities.
• Models developmentally appropriate practice and classroom or activity area management techniques.
• Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
• Prepares, arranges, and maintains indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials.
• Inventories equipment and recommends replenishment of damaged or depleted supplies.
• Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions.
• Assists with arranging or serving appropriate snacks or meals where applicable.
• Interacts with children using approved child guidance development techniques.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Two‑year degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or related field (e.g., Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, Psychology, Social Work, Home Economics with an emphasis in Human Development).
• Capability to complete Tier 1 background investigation, including state checks, upon hiring and renewal every five years.
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop, and stand regularly; duties may involve indoor and outdoor work.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Successful completion of the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination at pre‑placement and every two years for childcare positions.

• BA/BS degree in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or a similar accredited discipline, plus at least two years’ experience in child care or preschool environments.

• Residency Requirements:
  Non‑U.S. nationals authorized to work in the U.S. and applying for DHS positions must have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territories for at least three of the last five years.
