About the Paraprofessional Position
The paraprofessional will assist a certified teacher in providing specially designed instructional and non‑instructional activities for students with significant multiple disabilities, including sensory impairments. This 1‑to‑1 position supports students’ physical and emotional needs, facilitates life‑skills and functional academics, and provides essential classroom support.

Assist a certified teacher with providing specially designed instructional and non‑instructional activities for students with significant multiple disabilities, including sensory impairments. The role requires working in small groups and one‑to‑one with students on a regular basis to provide physical and emotional support, enabling the students to participate fully in the educational program.
Responsibilities- Assist the classroom teacher in academic instruction in a self‑contained life‑skills and functional academic classroom for students 18‑22 years old.
- Assist the classroom teacher in setting clear and structured limits relative to student needs.
- Escort students (e.g., bathroom, classroom, community) to ensure efficient and safe arrival.
- Supervise, support and model vocational opportunities in the community.
- Understand and develop team intervention strategies and techniques.
- Recognize the importance of staff attitude and professionalism in responding effectively to those in your charge.
- Under teacher direction, assist in preparation of classroom materials.
- Under teacher direction, correct and/or grade student class work.
- Assist other staff in providing supervision for transitions.
- Supervise students during transitions to class, lunch or recess, bathrooms, offices, and buses.
- Assist other staff in supervising volunteer opportunities, activities or field trips.
- Provide record keeping and other clerical duties as determined by the teacher.
- Act as an appropriate role model to students at all times.
- Under the supervision of teaching staff, direct and support the student in physical education opportunities and other related movement activities.
- Maintain professional boundaries and ensure student/staff confidentiality as appropriate within the educational team.
- Contribute to professional growth and collaboration by staying informed on current literature/resources and actively participating in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Respect and maintain student and family confidentiality.
- Cooperate successfully as a team member.
- Communicate effectively with other team members, including giving and receiving feedback (written and oral).
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Display flexibility and willingness to learn new skills and carry out assignments.
- Perform delegated duties with the required level of expertise and assume responsibility for own professional development.
- High school diploma required; associate’s degree or two years of college highly preferred.
- Able to demonstrate physical control and restraint positions when necessary as a last resort due to an individual's dangerous behavior.
- Able to navigate all areas of the school quickly, including indoor and outdoor spaces.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
