Position SummaryThe Lead Police Officer/Sergeant is responsible for the protection of life and property through crime prevention and the enforcement of Federal, State, and local laws, policies and procedures of Lindner Center of Hope. The Lead Police Officer/Sergeant will provide direction to LCOH Police Officers.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Provides direction to assigned staff. Reviews all daily logs, records, and reports. Ensures officers are following policy and procedure, then follows up with officer and/or police chief as needed. Prepares assigned reports and coordinates the property/valuables duties.
- Assists in scheduling and training of officers, as needed. Assists the police chief in developing training programs.
- Assists the police chief in coordinating and directing Campus Police and safety programs to include loss prevention, parking/traffic control, patrolling of physical property, enforcement of statutes and hospital regulations, inspection of facilities and investigation of criminal acts.
- May assume on-call duties in the police chief’s absence.
- Assists the police chief in his responsibilities as the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator, assisting in emergency drills/events, and updating Emergency Preparedness Manuals as needed.
- Supervises investigations and documents all reports of criminal or unusual activity, crisis incidents and policy violations and follows up when necessary. Completes appropriate incident reports as outlined in department policy.
- Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting the critical systems that Campus Police is responsible for maintaining.
- Ensures property and/or facilities are patrolled by foot to ensure a safe and secure environment, and response to alarm activations and radio dispatched calls.
- Conducts inspections and documents potential and real security, health and safety hazards. Upon discovery, shall conduct investigation if needed and submit a Plant Operations work request.
- Enforces LCOH policies, procedures, and regulations. Enforces all Federal, State and Local laws as indicated in the Ohio Revised Code.
- Responds quickly and participates in restraint and seclusion situations. Assists the interdisciplinary team as needed and takes direction from the person in charge.
- Cooperates and collaborates with community police departments, including the City of Mason.
- Ensures safety checks are completed throughout the facilities and grounds, and monthly checks of the panic alarm systems performed.
- Provides routine escort service to staff and visitors.
- Enforces all parking regulations and traffic control.
- Ensures safety checks are completed on all patients through the admission process, and patient valuables are collected and secured in the property room.
- Proficient with operating all systems and processes that Campus Police utilizes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma required.
- Two years experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.
- Law‑Enforcement experience.
- Ohio Peace Officer certification required.
- Thorough knowledge of proper police and security procedures, criminal code, and LCOH policy and procedure.
- Ability to use discretion, make independent decisions and display sound judgment in both routine and emergency situations.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required.
