Job Title:
Assistant Middle School Principal
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Assists the principal in overseeing the total operation of the middle school which involves, but is not limited to, staff supervision, curriculum planning, school and community activities and building management.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
* Report to work regularly and on time, prepared to perform appropriately assigned duties throughout the day, in service to students, staff, and the community.
* Prepare for and perform all assigned duties required by one's job description in a positive and collaborative manner.
* Follow justifiable directives issued by the established chain of authority with a learning-oriented attitude and seek support when needed.
* Identify, report, and/or if possible control unsafe conditions or safety hazards in order to maintain safe and secure working and learning environments.
* Demonstrate professional respect and integrity when interacting with students, parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders. This includes and is not limited to verbal, nonverbal, personal and electronic interactions.
* Comply with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines that prohibit coercive, harassing, threatening, retaliating, bullying or discriminating conduct.
* Communicate in a truthful, timely, compassionate, and empathetic manner about any matter of interest to the District following the appropriate chain of authority.
* Manage District property and assets in an ethical and responsible manner in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
* Maintain confidentiality of information as required under federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
* Report actions, through the appropriate chain of authority that may represent violations of federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
* Refrain from unethical activity that may reasonably interfere with the legitimate operational interests and goals of the District.
* Comply with all other federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Serves and supervises as the principal's representative at meetings and school when the principal is unavailable.
* Assists in developing and coordinating educational programs through meetings with staff, review of teachers' activities, and issuance of directives.
* Supervises teachers and departments as assigned by the principal.
* Provides support to individual and group guidance for personal problems, educational and vocational objectives, and social and recreational activities.
* Serves with parents, faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
* Collaborates with principal and counselor to communicate post-high school opportunities and available information regarding career, college, military and life style decisions.
* Requisition s supplies, textbooks and equipment; conducts inventories; maintains records and checks on receipts.
* Proposes schedules of classes and extracurricular activities.
* Communicates with and disciplines students in cases of attendance and behavior problems.
* Supervises and coordinates students at assemblies, athletic events and extracurricular activities.
* Maintains records of student attendance and serves as representative with Juvenile Court when necessary.
* Works with administrators to coordinate and supervise student teacher programs.
* Evaluates school staff as directed by the principal.
OTHER INFORMATION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION
* Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
* Ability to assist teachers with planning and implementing lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community.
* Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
* Ability to use computers for classroom instruction and record keeping.
* Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration.
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret testing and survey results, financial reports, and legal documents.
* Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community.
