Nurse Assistant – Post‑Surgical Orthopedics and Neurology Nursing Unit – Full Time – Days
Join Mercy One as a Nurse Assistant to support postoperative orthopedics and neurology patients. This role is full-time, day‑shift based, and provides essential patient care under RN supervision.
Position PurposeThe nurse assistant provides patient care focused on personal hygiene, nutritional support, and activities of daily living, ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity. The role supports the surgical patient population in a specialized orthopedics and neurology unit.
Employment TypeFull time
Shift12‑hour day shift (7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.) with coverage for every third weekend and selected holidays.
What You Will Do- Assist patients with physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social, and educational needs and support the care plan throughout the stay.
- Communicate patient changes or conditions to RN and multidisciplinary team promptly, documenting accurately and timely in electronic or paper records.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and protect dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
- Communicate with internal and external customers and colleagues in a courteous, positive, empathic, and professional manner.
7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., every 3rd weekend, and every other holiday.
Minimum Qualifications – Education- Completion of a formal Nurse Aid course or equivalent, verified by transcript or certificate.
- Or, enrollment in an A.D.N. or B.S.N. program with completion of the first semester of A.D.N. coursework, or first‑year B.S.N. coursework, or graduation from an A.D.N., Diploma, B.S.N., or L.P.N. program.
- Registered on the State of Iowa Nurse Aide registry as “Active” or eligible (preferred).
- Preferred:
Nursing Assistant experience.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to department needs.
- Self‑motivated, detail oriented.
- Must hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) card (Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross – Professional Rescuer LIVE) and maintain validity within 60 days of hire.
- Mandatory reporting of Child and Dependent Adult Abuse completed within 6 months of hire and renewed every 3 years.
