Human Resources Coordinator

Position Title: Human Resources Coordinator
Department: Administrative Services
Immediate Supervisor: Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) / Director of Human Resources
Shift: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, plus additional hours as needed
Location: Cerro Gordo County
FLSA: Non-exempt
Salary Range: $26.00 – $31.75 per hour based on experience and qualifications

Summary

The Human Resource Coordinator assists daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department, including recruiting, onboarding new staff, administering pay, training, benefits, monitoring leave, safety, and enforcing county policies and practices. The position also supports additional areas of the Administrative Services Department as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Assist in recruiting and facilitate hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborate with departmental managers to understand required skills and competencies.
  • Maintain applicant tracking system.
  • Conduct background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implement new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Work with various internal committees.
  • Administer and execute human resource programs: compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes, investigations, performance management, productivity, recognition, morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  • Oversee employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors; refer complex or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Assist in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Stay current on trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and recent technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Assist in development, training, and enforcement of safety policies in all county departments.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation claims and collaborate with supervisors on back-to-work planning.
  • Plan employee training through the Learning Management System and in-person training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the Administrative Services Department.

Education and Experience

Associate of Arts degree or 60 hours of college-level coursework required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.

Prefer a minimum of three (3) years previous office experience performing human resource responsibilities, general or legal administrative assistant duties, or office management experience. Human resources experience is a plus. Will train the right individual.

Physical Demands
  • Operate common office equipment such as typewriters, calculators, fax machine, photocopiers, and multi-line telephones.
  • Type 45 wpm accurately and use a computer for word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, presentations, electronic communication, and research.
  • Have sufficient manual dexterity to make handwritten notations and moderate to heavy use of a keyboard and mouse.
