Position

POSITION PURPOSE

The Chief Nursing Officer serves as a member of the Regional Health Ministry's (RHM) senior leadership team. Provides clinical and administrative leadership for both hospitals, with oversight for planning, organizing, directing, monitoring, and evaluating safe, high-quality patient care across the continuum to advance clinical practice and patient care in alignment with the ANA Scope of Practice and American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Standards.

  • Demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behavior, practice, and decisions.
  • Participates as a full member of the senior leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, execution, change management, and organizational decision-making. Develops and implements nursing’s mission, vision, values, goals, standards of care, and operating plans for patient care services.
  • Collaborates with the senior leadership team on operating and capital budgets.
  • Implements ongoing performance measures related to budget, productivity, and quality of care.
  • Ensures staffing plans support safe, high-quality patient care, including education and required competencies.
  • Oversees recruitment, retention, development, succession planning, and engagement of staff; promotes shared leadership.
  • Evaluates and integrates health care technology and information systems to support patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer to sponsor and lead evidence-based programs that improve safety and quality through measurable outcomes.
  • Ensures compliance with licensing, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Communicates with senior leaders, medical staff, the board, and stakeholders about patient safety, quality, loyalty, engagement, and physician satisfaction.
  • Participates in regional decision-making and leads improvement initiatives within the Regional Health Ministry.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, Trinity Health policies, and integrity program requirements to ensure ethical and professional behavior.

Minimum Qualifications
  • State Registered Nursing license.
  • Master’s degree required; either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree must be in Nursing. Doctoral education is preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years executive/director level leadership experience in patient care in an acute care setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of professional nursing practice in an executive or specialty area with certification (e.g., CENP, NEA-BC, FACHE). Certification required within 18 months of hire.
  • Member of a professional nursing organization.
  • Strong understanding of Electronic Medical Records, clinical informatics, and advanced health care technologies.
  • Knowledge of health care environment, laws and regulations.
  • System thinking, change leadership, shared governance, matrix reporting, continuous improvement, process excellence, and financial/productivity management.
  • Ability to collaborate with administrative and health care teams; ability to synthesize and interpret large data sets related to clinical, quality, and financial performance.
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, evidence-based leadership, project management, and interpersonal communication skills.
Physical and Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to balance, manage, and adapt to changing work priorities and coordinate with System Office and RHMs.
  • Ability to travel to Trinity Health sites as needed.
