Description
The therapist/counselor assumes the role of a generalist therapist and performs individual and family assessments as well as other therapy services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis (including in the Intensive Outpatient Program and medical units). The therapist/counselor conducts individual, family and group counseling and regularly assists providers and treatment teams with clinical recommendations based on knowledge of age‑specific growth and development and psychiatric diagnoses.
The therapist/counselor provides consultation and educational programming to Mercy One North Iowa Medical Center staff as requested and serves as a resource to patients throughout the continuum of care, helping to make referrals to community agencies and working through individual and/or family social‑emotional problems.

ShiftDay Shift (Monday‑Friday 8am‑4:30pm, no holidays or required weekends)
Essential Functions- Within the limits of training, assesses individuals and families of all age groups served presenting with mental health problems especially to the inpatient program.
- Assists in coordinating care and serves as a resource to Mercy One North Iowa Medical Center and Mercy One North Iowa's Clinic staff in making referrals to community agencies and in working with patients and family social‑emotional problems.
- Within the limits of training, counsels individuals and families. Conducts group therapy sessions.
- Conducts individual patient substance use assessments, including Chemical Dependency Evaluations, on the inpatient units as ordered by providers. Assists the psychiatrist, other physicians and/or treatment teams to develop treatment/discharge plans for patients with substance use problems.
- Assists Bachelor's Level social workers, Social Services Technicians and Case Managers with discharge planning for adults and adolescents and assumes responsibility for those duties when needed.
- Masters Degree in Social Work from a CSWE training program.
- Masters Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field from a CACREP‑accredited program.
- Previous demonstrated training experiences in assessment and counseling in a medical or mental health facility is preferred.
- Must be a licensed LISW or LMHC.
- Must have demonstrated training in working with patients of all age ranges noted above seeking care in at least the inpatient and outpatient programs of the Mercy Medical Center continuum of care. Competence with day treatment/partial hospitalization programs is also preferred. As such, must have demonstrated training or experience with a wide range of pathologies.
