Overview

BUSINESS RESOURCE CONSULTANT

CATEGORY/LEVEL: PSS/10

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for outreach to business and industry for the purpose of coordinating customized training and selling NIACC Business and Workforce Solutions services/programs. Promote and monitor economic development funding programs. This position works closely with other program team members and the Operations Team in developing, scheduling, and implementing current offerings and new initiatives. The Business Resource Consultant is involved with program management including needs assessments, administration of program areas, program analysis/selection, analysis of trends and research, new program development, and the procurement and management of continuing education instructors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Two-year postsecondary degree with 3-5 years of experience in an educational or business setting with an understanding of training, program management and/or program development. Self-motivated, creative individual possessing the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with representatives from varying industries and backgrounds. Ability to work independently, accept responsibility with limited supervision, manage multiple projects to successful completion, and work with frequent interruptions.

Strong personal computer skills and proven success working within a team-based environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities and duties
  • Execute outreach to business and industry for the purposes of sales and revenue growth.
  • Develop and schedule continuing education training programs for occupational fields, industries, and subject matter areas as assigned, including, but not limited to, open enrollment, consortiums and/or short-term certificates.
  • Provide outreach, consult, identify, develop, promote, implement, and evaluate customized training activities with businesses in North Iowa.
  • Utilize LERN tools, benchmarks, and formulas to assist in the promotion of program offerings, determine pricing, maintain appropriate operating margins, enrollment trends, cancellations, evaluate programs, and to develop new courses/programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with area employers, economic developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the oversight of funding initiatives for economic development focusing on various programs and activities aligned with state and local guidelines.
  • Assess local and regional educational and training needs.
  • Complete needs assessments with area businesses to identify strategies that will assist them in achieving sustainability.
  • Develop training plans and associated activities that support the delivery of economic development projects in the North Iowa area.
  • Develop an understanding of NIACC programs to provide businesses with the most comprehensive training and service.
  • Provide responsive customer service by regularly evaluating customer needs, satisfaction, and program outcomes.
  • Evaluate curriculum and instructional materials and methods for new and ongoing training programs.
  • Responsible for recruitment and management of Continuing Education instructors and trainers, including, but not limited to, orientation, induction and staff development.
  • Process and monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Manage project financial activities by budgeting for upcoming classes and events.
  • Provide timely and accurate entry of required documentation and programming.
  • Work in cooperation with other Iowa community colleges and training partners.
  • Serve as a member of divisional and institutional committees and participate in professional organizations and college committees.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with other NIACC departments to support and enhance training offerings.
  • Maintain strong organizational skills, demonstrate reliability, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Fulfill other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
  • Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
