Overview
Practice Setting: Most work is done in an outpatient clinic with very few inpatient cases.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, working 9 hours each day.
Patients: You will treat adult and elderly patients.
Patient Type: Half of the patients are blood-related issues (Hematology) and the other half have cancer (Oncology).
Daily Patient Load: You will see 12 to 16 patients each day.
ResponsibilitiesRequired Skills: You need to manage VAD/Central Venous Catheters and give Intrathecal chemotherapy.
Job Duties: You will help with a Tumor Board, order medical tests, request images, and write prescriptions. A nurse will give chemotherapy based on your orders.
Support: There is physician support available before, during, and after procedures.
Procedures Available: All types of surgeries are available except for transplants. There is limited work with children, but support is available for OB (obstetrics), Cath Lab, and ED (emergency department).
Teaching OpportunityYou will have a chance to teach CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) students.
Qualifications- You must be Board Eligible (and become Board Certified within 3 years) or already Board Certified in Hematology/Oncology or Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Hematology/Oncology (must be ABIM or AOBIM). This is required.
- You need an Iowa medical license or be part of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) or be willing to get one. This is also required.
- You should have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or be willing to obtain it. This is required.
- You need DEA certification or be willing to get one. This is required.
- You also need Controlled Substance (CSR/CDS) certification or be willing to get one. This is required.
