Hiring for Multiple Positions
Seasonal positions up to 1,200 hours in a rolling calendar year. First‑time applicants start at $21.00/hour; returning applicants eligible for step increases. Not eligible for health care benefits.
Position SummaryTemporary semi‑skilled labor. Duties vary depending on area; may include daily maintenance and clean‑up of grounds and facilities, construction, utilities, street maintenance. Schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays.
Examples ofJob Duties
- Parks Maintenance and Operations
- General maintenance and clean‑up of grounds and facilities.
- Daily area set‑up and preparations for normal operations and special events.
- Manual labor tasks such as painting, hand‑digging, landscape installation and maintenance (hanging baskets, turf areas, trees, flower beds, shrubbery).
- Use of standard hand tools (screwdrivers, saws, hammers, shovels, pitch forks, rakes, blowers, weed‑eater, walk‑behind mowers).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Public Works Maintenance and Operations
- Manual labor tasks such as painting fire hydrants, hand‑digging, pipe installation.
- General maintenance and clean‑up of assigned areas.
- Use of standard hand tools (screwdrivers, saws, hammers, shovels, pitch forks, rakes, blowers, weed‑eaters, walk‑behind mowers).
- If assigned to meter reader/repair: meter box and ground maintenance; shut‑off notices, leak checks, meter slip reading.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License.
- Pass the City's driving abilities assessment.
- Be at least 18 years of age by date of application (for some positions).
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in grounds and facilities maintenance, custodian services, construction, utilities, or street maintenance preferred.
- Seasonal custodial duties: availability to work evening and weekend hours.
- Flagging certification for Public Works seasonal laborer.
Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, bending, climbing, using hands, lifting up to 25 lbs frequently, 25‑50 lbs occasionally, 50‑100 lbs with assistance. Vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment.
Work outside in various weather conditions; exposure to vibration, mechanical/electrical hazards, hazardous chemicals, traffic. Noise moderate to loud.
