Surgical Technologist | Surgery

What You'll Do

• Prepare and organize the operating room, equipment, instruments and supplies per the manufacturer’s instructions for use as required for various surgical procedures;
  Adheres to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment
• Anticipates and provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team during procedure(s)
• Performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy
• Prepares patient specimens and medications of sterile field according to policy
• Sets up and maintains an organized sterile field
• Utilizes proper body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables in order to prevent injury to self, patient and other personnel
• Prepares sterile dressings as needed
• Provide circulator with product packaging information for appropriate patient charging
• Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for processing and transports them to the decontamination area
• Assists with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients

• Diploma/certificate from an approved Surgical Technologist program, an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology, or an Associate’s Degree in other healthcare related field
• Maintain continuous certification in American Heart Association’s BLS. Surgical Tech diploma/certification or an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology, or an Associate’s Degree or higher degree in a healthcare related field
