Overview Of Responsibilities
- Pilot work
- Assist in the production of WAT on R&D’s pilot line.
- Compound or obtain adhesives, primers and release coating employed in pilot runs.
- Conduct standard and end-use performance testing (such as adhesion, strength) of pilot and experimental production/trial product.
- Report the findings of all testing in a standardized report format.
- Formulation Work
- Prepare formulation spreadsheets in Excel.
- Order and/or gather the raw materials necessary (e.g. adhesives, primers, additives, backings) for conducting pilot runs.
- Assist with the preparation of adhesives.
- Additional Tasks
- Provide test support for the competitive tape program.
- Utilize electronic information databases to conduct information searches.
- Participate in the weekly product development team meetings to update the Product Development Manager on the status of project work.
- Document all process data and observations in detail in a laboratory notebook or in Word documents that are entered into an electronic database.
- Calibrate laboratory instruments, as per ISO instructions, on a monthly basis.
- Work with a safety mindset; supports and participates in all safety programs and initiatives.
- Display support of 5S housekeeping programs.
- Associates Degree with an emphasis in Science. A strong math and/or chemistry background is a plus.
- Prior lab experience a plus
- Innovative, organized self-starter with good problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) preferred but not required.
- Attention to detail in documenting and reporting results.
- Collaborative interpersonal style with experience working on project teams.
- Excellent communication skills.
The Product Development Technician will work daytime hours. The Product Development Technician must also be willing to work with hazardous chemicals, if provided with the proper protective devices and SDS information. The Technician will spend a majority of time in the laboratory and pilot building; a small percentage of time may be spent on the production floor, working around highspeed coating and converting equipment.
