Position Information
Job Title: Counselor Full Time - Tenured Track
Location: Yuba Community College District, Yuba City, CA
Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the Dean of Student Development, provide comprehensive counseling services to support the College’s recruitment, retention, and completion efforts. Responsibilities include participating in orientation activities, individual and group counseling sessions, classroom presentations, workshops, assessment and placement interpretation, outreach activities, evening assignments, and liaison duties with instructional and student services departments. The role also involves curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, professional development, shared governance, and the use of student information systems and case‑management tools to support student success.
EssentialDuties
- Assist students in developing educational and career goals through comprehensive student educational plans.
- Teach counseling classes each semester as assigned.
- Deliver counseling services through multiple modalities (in‑person, virtual, etc.) to expand access.
- Administer tests and inventories and interpret results for counselees.
- Build and maintain relationships with instructional areas, outreach centers, feeder high schools, neighboring colleges, and community resource agencies.
- Provide evening and weekend counseling, including services at outreach locations.
- Implement intervention strategies to increase student retention and persistence.
- Provide counseling to special populations (e.g., athletes, ESL students, veterans).
- Assist students with aptitudes, interests, academic and career planning, course selection, and college activities.
- Develop student educational plans that include coursework and supplemental needs.
- Develop transfer plans that meet eligibility requirements for four‑year colleges.
- Assist students with personal problems or referrals to campus and community resources.
- Participate in departmental, division, and college‑wide committees and meetings.
- Collaborate professionally within and outside the department.
- Participate in the shared‑governance process.
- Complete all duties assigned by the Dean.
- Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or a related discipline.
- Equivalency determination from the Yuba Community College District if a Master’s is not held.
- California Community College Life Credential in Counseling, or an MFT license as an alternative qualification.
- Community college counseling and teaching experience.
- Sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds, including ESL students.
- Proficiency with personality and career assessment tools and related software.
- Experience developing and implementing community college transfer and career center programs.
- Working knowledge of advanced technology for classroom instruction and online services.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of athletic eligibility rules (GOA, NAIA, NCAA) and structured educational programs (learning communities, First Year Experience, MESA).
Range/Step:
Class 2, Step 1 – Class 7, Step 10 (New hires will not be placed higher than step 10).
$79,984 to $128,369 per year (Full Time Faculty Salary Schedule).
