We are seeking a dedicated, hardworking, individual to help us ship materials both domestically and internationally. As a member of our team, you'll contribute to APL's success supporting the Transportation and Logistics Section and FMT Group with processing, packaging, and delivery of outbound materials and shipments including exports, classified, and hazardous materials. This position operates primarily in a warehouse environment and requires regular physical activity including lifting, moving materials, and operating warehouse equipment.

As an International Shipping Coordinator
  • Interact and coordinate with APL partners, sponsors, and outside transportation companies regarding outbound shipments. Answer questions and resolve related issues.
  • Pick up and prepare materials/equipment for outbound shipments.
  • Select the optimal mode of transportation and coordinate logistics.
  • Follow federal regulations and APL policies and procedures.
  • Measure materials and equipment, request customs crates, and liaise with external vendors to support shipping requirements and specifications.
  • Coordinate and schedule large shipments and logistical moves.
  • Prepare packaging for shipments, including exports, dangerous goods, and classified materials.
  • Determine freight carriers for shipments.
  • Load and unload freight using a forklift and electric pallet jack.
  • Prepare reports on materials shipped and associated documentation, including waybills, signature tally sheets, commercial invoices, and export/hazardous material documents.
  • Track outbound and return shipments through delivery.
  • Provide timely and transparent communication to both internal partners and external shipping vendors throughout the shipping process.
  • Proactively resolve shipping delays by thoroughly reviewing documents to streamline and expedite domestic and international delivery targets when possible.
  • Develop strong resources and relationships with external shipping vendors, including customs brokers.
  • Utilize APL vehicles in the course of day to day operations.
  • Assist in other areas (e.g. rigging) within the FMT group administratively and as a materials handler as needed.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications if you:

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have 2+ years of international shipping experience in all of the following areas:
    • Import/export operations, including preparation of commercial invoices, Shipper's Letters of Instruction, and other related documentation
    • Transportation/logistics environments with direct involvement in coordinating shipments with outside carriers and freight forwarders, including exports, hazardous materials, and classified materials
  • Have forklift operation experience (or the ability to obtain APL forklift certification)
  • Are able to lift up to 50 lbs. independently and occasionally more with team assistance
  • Are able to walk extensively throughout the workday
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Can adapt to an ever-changing work environment
  • Are proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Can work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Possess strong interpersonal, time management, customer service, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Requires valid state-of-residence driver's license in good standing.
  • Are able ultimately obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
