The Laborer and Driver’s Helper is responsible for supporting field operations by completing labor tasks under the direction of the Crew Leader/Foreman. This role also assists the driver with safe vehicle operation, including pre‑trip inspections, loading and unloading materials, and guiding vehicle movements to ensure safety and efficiency.
General Responsibilities- Report to work on time, in uniform, at the designated job site or office location.
- Carry out tasks as assigned by the Crew Leader/Foreman in a positive and cooperative manner.
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure the safe, legal loading, unloading, and operation of company trucks.
- Maintain a professional and positive work attitude throughout the workday.
- Complete assigned tasks and daily work orders as directed.
- Collaborate with fellow laborers to complete assignments safely and cost‑effectively.
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards and complies with company policies and procedures.
- Use tools and equipment properly, as trained, and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
- Ask questions whenever unsure about a task or equipment usage.
- Follow daily work orders provided by the Foreman/Crew Leader and confirm understanding prior to starting work.
- Safely operate tools and equipment according to manufacturer instructions and company safety standards (JSLI & OSHA).
- Assist the driver with pre-trip truck inspections, including checking lights and backup alarms.
- Ensure the truck bed is clear when machine-loading materials.
- Help secure tools, equipment, and materials on the truck.
- Assist in properly positioning truck loads (centered and 2/3 forward).
- Aid in tying down heavy equipment (mowers, trenchers, tractors, skid loaders, etc.).
- Place DOUBLE wheel chocks when palletized materials are being loaded/unloaded.
- Spot the driver while backing up, using proper hand signals and traffic flags.
- Use traffic flags to safely guide traffic during truck backing, turns, or trailer connections.
- Place wheel chocks and safety cones whenever the truck is parked.
- Report any vehicle, equipment, or tool repair needs to the Foreman.
- Direct clients to speak with the Foreman/Crew Leader regarding any concerns.
- Report damaged, broken, or missing equipment or materials.
- Ensure vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment are cleaned, inspected, and secured at the end of each day.
- Release crew members once all daily tasks are completed (if assigned by the Foreman).
- Willingness to learn through daily safety and productivity briefings.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
- Bilingual skills are a plus (English/Spanish).
- Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
- Ability to speak English or willingness to learn.
- Preference for candidates with a stable work history.
- 6 months of industry experience preferred, but not required.
