SummaryTransport Driver is responsible for transporting finished goods and raw materials over land to wholesale customers and retail bulk facilities. Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Deliver goods while operating a tractor-trailer truck, sometimes over intercity routes or spanning several states.
- Load and unload cargo.
- Record amount and type of cargo being delivered.
- Drive long distances.
- Fill up on fuel, clean truck, and wash windows.
- Report to a dispatcher any incidents encountered on the road.
- Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion.
- Follow all applicable traffic laws.
- Inspect trailer before and after the trip and record any defects.
- Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs.
- Keep a log of activities.
- Report serious mechanical problems to appropriate personnel.
- Keep truck and associated equipment clean and in good working order.
- Transport hazardous materials.
- Take special precautions while driving.
- Plan routes using maps or satellite tracking.
- Get goods to client on time.
- Take rest periods during trip.
- Buy or lease trucks from other companies.
- Find and keep clients.
- Maintain log of trips.
- 1–2 years driving experience.
- Valid driver’s license – Class A, CDL license with Hazmat & Tanker Endorsement (REQUIRED).
- TWIC Card (REQUIRED).
- Pass PEP Training (formerly CETP).
- Desire to grow and accelerate with the company.
- Good customer relations.
- Must have a positive, upbeat attitude.
- 2 years with CDL (PREFERRED).
- 2 years of industry experience (PREFERRED).
- Valid Class A CDL driver’s license with Hazmat & Tanker Endorsement.
- Driving record with under 2 points.
