The Calvert County Family Network is seeking an engaging and compassionate Family Resource Navigator who enjoys working directly with children and families. This role connects families to community resources, helps them navigate services, and builds positive relationships that support family well-being. We’re looking for someone who is approachable, organized, and energized by helping others access the support they need to thrive.

The Family Resource Navigator supports children and families in Calvert County by helping them identify and access community-based resources and services. The position focuses on child and family well-being, ensuring that children and their caregivers receive support to overcome barriers related to education, health, housing, financial stability, and developmental needs.

This position reports to the Family Network Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions

Researches and maintains up-to-date knowledge of services and programs that support children and families, including early childhood, education, healthcare, food access, housing, employment, supportive services, and mental health resources.

Interviews families in person or by telephone to conduct family-centered assessments of needs and strengths.

Helps families identify and access services, informs them about available programs, and assists with navigating the application process for support.

Makes referrals for families to access services and programs that support children and families, including early childhood, education, healthcare, food access, housing, employment, supportive services, and mental health resources.

Maintains documentation of family interactions, services provided, and outcomes using case management software.

Follows up with families to ensure access to services and advocates on their behalf when needed to overcome administrative barriers.

Builds and maintains partnerships with agencies and service providers focused on children and family services.

Shares timely and relevant information with families at outreach events, community meetings, and school-related gatherings.

Updates and maintains an online community resource directory to ensure accuracy and ease of access for families.

Uses social media platforms to promote available services, events, and resources relevant to children and families.

Completes reporting for grants.

Attends monthly and bi-monthly meetings of groups that provide services or resources for families.

Attends workshops, seminars, and training for enrichment and job enhancement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)

Knowledge of–

  • Principles and practices of service navigation, case management, and referrals for children and families.
  • Family-serving agencies, providers, programs, and community-based resources.
  • Electronic case management software systems.

Ability to–

  • Maintain confidentiality of personal information, data, and records of individuals served.
  • Deal effectively with the public, including community events.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Create work-related content for social media and websites.
Required Qualifications (

Note:

Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or

Education:

Bachelor's degree in human services or related field.

Experience:

Two years of experience with service navigation or information/referral with individuals and families. Experience with content creation for social media/websites is preferred.

Licenses or Certificates:

Valid driver's license.

Physical Demands:

The majority of work will be performed in an office setting, using a laptop. A portion of the work includes attending community outreach events at schools, community programs, and family-serving agencies across the County. These events may require walking or standing for extended periods and lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds for event setup.
