The Prince George's County Department of Family Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Family Navigator position (Community Developer I (Community Developer 1G)), grade G-18/G-21 within its Children, Youth and Families Division
.

About the Position

The Family Navigator will provide navigation support to youth and families county-wide who receive services through the Local Care Team (LCT) and the Children in Need of Support (CINS) programs. The family Navigator also promotes the philosophy of family centered-care, linkage to resources and engaging families to services/resources. In addition, the family Navigator is responsible for coordination and collaboration of social and human services as well as provides administrative support to the Children, Youth, and Families Division (CYFD).

The Department of Family Services improves the quality of life and overall well-being of the communities by providing information, assistance and referrals, as well as promoting and developing high quality, innovative programs that educate, empower, respect choice and preserve dignity. The department is responsible for providing assistance to some of the County’s most vulnerable citizens – children, families, victims of domestic violence, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, veterans, and seniors.

The department is comprised of three divisions that serve the aging and disabled, victims of domestic violence, as well as children, youth and families in need of support and resources.

  • Attend the Local Care Team Reviews and Children in Need of Support Case Review Meetings to provide updates of previous recommendations.
  • Build a trusting, collaborative partnership with families.
  • Recognize and promote family’s readiness, willingness, and ability to participate in accessing services.
  • Listen and work to address barriers with families by identifying available supports and resources to ensure goals are met.
  • Conduct a needs assessment with families and develop an action plan.
  • Contact new and existing families for weekly progress update.
  • Support families in self-advocacy as they access resources.
  • Identify barriers to service delivery and make recommendations.
  • Knowledgeable of Prince George’s County resources and the ability to connect families to existing resources including, but not limited to behavioral health, food access, housing and assistance completing applications for services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with referring agencies staff and community organizations (i.e., school system, Pupil Personnel Workers, Inter‑agency Council, etc.).
  • Provide ongoing updates to include preparation and submission of monthly client contact information.
  • Prepare confidential material, including correspondence, reports, and disseminate to appropriate entities.
  • Assist in identifying clients’ needs for training and education; help to identify client specific resources and referrals.
  • Establish and maintain clear documentation of all program correspondence, records, and reports.
  • Participate in county‑wide community outreach activities/events.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree with major course work in business or public administration, social service, sociology, psychology, or other fields.
  • Responsible work experience which includes coordination of group activities, preferably including work with disadvantaged individuals.
