Schedule:
40 hours per week
A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Traffic Engineering & Transportation Planning - Signal Shop.
A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.
Current and future vacancies occurring in any Office or Department of Baltimore County General Government may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.

Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, performs skilled field and bench work in the repair, maintenance, modification, and installation of traffic signal control devices and associated equipment.
Example of Essential Duties:
* Performs field and bench repairs of various traffic signal control devices and related equipment such as signals, vehicle detectors, controllers, cabinets, and wiring.
* Diagnoses and repairs signal malfunctions.
* Inspects, modifies, and tests traffic signal control equipment.
* Pre-wires, sets, and installs traffic signals and control cabinets.
* Performs general maintenance and inspections of traffic control equipment.
* Replaces hoods, lenses, and bulbs.
* Sets and adjusts timings and controller programs.
* Receives, analyzes, and logs information generated by traffic control computer systems.
* Monitors the status of the traffic signal systems.
* Answers maintenance and repair calls during regular working hours and on an emergency basis.
* Leads and instructs less experienced personnel.
Examples of Other Duties:
* Maintains the repair shop.
* Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent
PLUS
Four years' experience in electronics repair, two years of which were in the repair and maintenance of electronic traffic signal systems.
(Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Additional education in electronics may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.)
(Possession of a Traffic Signal Level I certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) may be substituted for one year of the required general experience. Possession of a Traffic Signal Level II certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) may be substituted for two years of the required general experience.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level):
* Knowledge of the maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of traffic signal control devices.
* Knowledge of the tools and techniques used in traffic signal repair and maintenance.
* Knowledge of solid-state electronics including microprocessors.
* Knowledge of traffic control terminology.
* Knowledge of the principles, practices, and equipment of railroad and fire/emergency preemption.
* Knowledge of telemetry and interconnect hardware.
* Knowledge of personal computers and traffic signal control software.
* Knowledge of Safety standards and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance):
* Knowledge of County and Departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
* Skill in leading and instructing others.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
