Job Description SummaryThe candidate will work as part of a team of scientists that develops automated assays using nucleic acid isolation and real-time amplification/detection technologies. Reporting to a team leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the design, development, integration and/or qualification of assays on automated clinical laboratory detection systems. The successful candidate may also be expected to provide support in execution of clinical studies to validate performance of the assays/systems and assemble relevant information in support of regulatory submissions.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
Utilize a broad range of practical techniques in molecular biology. Work under general supervision following established protocols and/or techniques. Develop/adapt procedures to meet specific objectives and solve problems. Work collaboratively or independently to apply scientific principles in the design and execution of experiments as well as the analysis and interpretation of experimental results. Collect and document experimental design, results and conclusions.
Present experimental design, results and interpretation to peers and/or department leaders, either orally or in written form. Understand and leverage scientific principles and published research in molecular diagnostics. Provide technical input to other scientists within Research and Development and provide support to other functional groups. Draft protocols for and conduct validation studies as well as analyze and interpret results.
Proficiency in a range of techniques in molecular biology including nucleic acid extraction and amplification is required. Meticulous technique in handling of nucleic acids is also required. Proficient in applying innovative approaches to problem solving. Good oral and written communication skills are necessary together with a history of self‑motivation and work in a team environment. General knowledge in microbiology, virology and/or clinical laboratory science.
Experience in handling of infectious biological samples and working in a cGMP environment are desirable. Experience in manipulation and processing of clinical specimens for the isolation of nucleic acids is advantageous.
A degree in a biological science with at least one year of lab experience; interest in medical device product development is a plus.
Additional InformationLab experience preferred.
Prefers industry experience vs academic; minimum 1 year lab experience required; not looking for someone who is too green and just out of school.
Experience with instrumentation a +.
Someone who can validate studies a ++.
Writing and executing protocol a ++.
This is more of a molecular biology role.
