We are looking for a Behavioral Research Specialist I to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Poolesville, MD. As the Behavioral Research Specialist I, you will maintain, monitor, and provide the necessary care to meet the needs of lab animal psychological well-being and behavioral health of the program.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Conduct behavioral assessments on non-human primates. Use positive reinforcement to train animals for various husbandry and veterinary procedures.
• Establish pairs/social groups and monitor for compatibility.
• Evaluate and implement novel behavioral data collection methodologies. Participate in discussions pertaining to enrichment.
• Prepare for incoming shipments of non-human primates and work with animal care managers/staff on adjustments to husbandry.
• Sometimes work with other species (such as ungulates and mice).
• General housekeeping.

The following are minimum requirements related to the Behavioral Research Specialist I position:

• BS in a scientific discipline, OR an AA degree and related practical experience
• A minimum of three years of experience in a laboratory animal setting of which at least one year is preferred with non-human primates (NHP)
• Experience performing animal observations and behavioral assessments; understanding of the applications of positive reinforcement training is highly desired

The pay for this position is $32.00 USD per hour
