Facilities Mechanic
Position Summary:
The Facilities Mechanic is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a GMP Facility, key utilities, equipment, and laboratory systems to support manufacturing and research operations.
- Operate, maintain, and repair utility systems – HVAC, clean steam generator, chiller, USP‑water/DI water skids, WFI systems, plant steam boilers, air compressors, etc.
- Assist management in writing operational protocols, preventive maintenance plans, and calibration procedures.
- Accurately complete and maintain all equipment logbooks and maintenance records.
- Routinely troubleshoot and repair laboratory and manufacturing equipment such as fermenters, pumps, filtration skids, and freezers.
- Participate in facility expansion and validation projects.
- Recommend parts and supply purchases for equipment within the manufacturing and laboratory areas.
- Work closely with manufacturing and laboratory staff to troubleshoot and repair equipment problems.
- Work under general supervision to meet project goals.
- Coordinate with various departments at Catalent and offer assistance as needed.
- Follow Catalent safety procedures, practices, and cGMP.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of related experience (biologics manufacturing, GMP environment, hospital, food, chemicals).
- Effective written and verbal communication in English.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in a biopharmaceutical manufacturing/R&D facility, supporting GMP production of Phase I/II bulk biologics.
- Basic math and computer skills (Word, Excel) and familiarity with building automation systems (BAS).
- Obtain a Grade 3 Stationary Engineer’s License within the first year of service.
- Strong mechanical ability for troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
- Experience working in an FDA‑regulated, cleanroom environment that requires full gowning (Tyvek coverall, gloves, hair cover, shoe covers).
- Clear communication skills in English (verbally and written).
Anticipated salary range for this position in Maryland: $70,000–$85,000 plus an annual bonus target. Final salary offered may vary based on experience, skill set, and business needs.
